I always wanted to be a part of a flash mob. Just walking along absorbed in my own mundane thoughts – the music plays but doesn’t penetrate my bubble, then a dancer catches my eye and just as I’ve glanced beyond my self absorption bubble another person joins the dance, then another and GASP… OMG is this a flash mob?? HORRAY, the joy and thrill of this sudden transformation of work-a-day life into a spectacle of movement, music and community…
It didn’t actually happen that way for me. I was asked to come and photograph this flash mob at San Francisco Union Square Friday at lunch hour. So I didn’t get the same thrill of the unexpected, but being there to photograph it was a joy in itself.
